Why are you running for Student Government?
I want to run for student government because I want to advocate for students that have needs and concerns that have not been met. Student government is a way that problems can be addressed and resolved, and I want to be apart of the processes that can contribute to solving problems on campus.
Which issue do think should be changed or improved on campus?
Two things that I believe should be changed are food prices and shuttle bus quantities. Students have many classes that they must navigate to across campus. However, It can be really inconvenient when students have classes that are very close to each other time wise, but are far in distance, especially when a class can be on the other side of Elm-wood park on the other campus.
Furthermore, I think there should be more shuttles that bring students to Mammel Hall and PKI. I also think that food prices should be brought down a little bit in price. In this time of our lives as college students, money is something that we don't have a lot of, and it can be even more difficult when we have to spend a less than feasible amount of money to buy a decent lunch, or grab a snack.
What makes you qualified to sit on Student Government?
I know that I am qualified for this position because I am very passionate about being engaged in the community and advocating for the concerns of people around me. I want to grow my ability to empathize, and understand other peoples experiences and world views, and use those moments of deeper understanding to make highly functional and informed decisions based on the concerns of the students around me.
In 2019, I was the recipient of the Young Black and Influential award (advocacy section) due to advocating to young students about higher education. Furthermore, I believe it is important for students' voices on campus to be heard, and I want to help facilitate their concern and make a positive impact on campus.
