Additional Information
Why are you running for Student Government?
Within the past few months, I have been heavily involved in student government as one of the two Freshman Ambassadors. I also have been involved with the Freshman Leadership Council. Being involved in these two groups of student government I have enjoyed being in leadership, learning about the way to improve campus and speak for my constituents.
I really enjoyed learning the procedures during student government committee and senate meetings and am excited to hopefully contribute to the betterment across all of UNO's campuses. I have enjoyed my time as a Freshman Ambassador and do not wish for it to end.
Which issue do think should be changed or improved on campus?
I am enrolled within the College of Education and am currently taking Human Relations and Educational Foundations; these classes are required as a prerequisite into the Educator Preparation Program. Since the start of the spring semester, I have noticed and brainstormed ideas to make some improvement within my college.
My main idea would be to begin a school supplies closet. The project would begin with donated new or used school supplies whether it be notebooks, binders, flash drives, pens, pencils, markers, etc. All the donated supplies will be available for all UNO students who do not have the means to acquire school supplies to make their education easy.
The closet will also benefit the College of Education who are preparing for their required practicum. Within the College of Education the addition of women's sanitary products in all the bathrooms in Roskins. Limiting these female sanitary products for only the main floor disrupts the education of students who need to step out of class for these products, whose classes happen to be on any other floor than the main.
Apart from the addition of female sanitary products but more tables and chairs to accommodate all students who wish to study in Roskins throughout the day.
What makes you qualified to sit on Student Government?
Before attending UNO in the fall of 2019, I was involved in various leadership positions in high school. I was the captain of the speech and debate team, section leader within my band and choir classes, a mentor to fifth-grade students through Senior PALS, communication officer in my student council and many more activities.
Being involved in student council for all four years in high school has taught me how to listen to the concerns and ideas of my constituents, represent them in the best manner I could and lead them in a positive manner. During my junior year of student council, I was elected to the State Student Council District 7 president and represented all the high schools within the district and led them by example within their own chapters.
Now, during my first year at UNO, I have been involved with FLC (Freshman Leadership Council) and was voted by members in FLC to be one of the two Freshman Ambassadors. Within both organizations, I have learned how to approach leading college students and advocating for my constituents. Being a Freshman Ambassador, it has taught me the ins and outs of Student Government and has been a stepping stone into preparing to be a future senator.
