Submit Your Nominations for an Honorary Degree, Order of the Tower, or the Chancellor's Medal

Honor a distinguished member of the UNO community by nominating them for an Honorary Degree, Order of the Tower, or Chancellor’s Medal by Oct. 31.

Know someone whose contributions to the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) deserve to be acknowledged? Now is the time to recognize them. Nominations are open for three university honors: the Honorary Degree, Order of the Tower, and Chancellor’s Medal.

UNO’s impact is driven by people who contribute their time, talent, ideas, and support to the university and the communities it serves. These awards offer an opportunity to recognize those contributions and celebrate the Mavericks who help advance UNO’s mission.

Take a moment to recognize someone whose achievements or service have made a difference at UNO and beyond. Nominations for all three awards are due Oct. 31.


Honorary Degree

Honorary doctoral degrees recognize individuals with extraordinary and lasting achievements.

Eligible candidates include:

  • Individuals who have provided distinguished service to the university or state of Nebraska.

  • Graduates, former students, or former affiliates who have achieved distinction.

  • Individuals outside the university with notable records in scholarship, creativity, leadership, or public service.

Order of the Tower

This award honors individuals whose exemplary service and/or financial support have advanced the mission of UNO.

Nominees should demonstrate:

  • Achievements that have contributed significantly to the mission of UNO, the greater urban metropolitan area, or embrace the values of the university.

The Order of the Tower Award shall not be awarded to individuals who are currently employed by the University of Nebraska at Omaha, or any person seeking or holding an elective state or federal office.

Chancellor's Medal

The Chancellor’s Medal honors a full-time faculty or staff member for extraordinary service to UNO.

Nominee Criteria:

  • Extraordinary service to the University of Nebraska at Omaha by a full-time faculty or staff member who has performed with excellence in his or her chosen profession.

  • >The awardee shall have performed with distinction in any of these fields: scholarship, research or creative arts, or university service.

  • Reserved for active/current full-time faculty and staff members.

Honorees exhibit sustained excellence in scholarship, research, creative activities, or university service. The medal is a distinguished recognition from the UNO community to honor one of its own.
