University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Phil He, Ph.D.; Vice Chancellor for Institutional Effectiveness and Student Success (IESS) Jason Browning, Ph.D., MBA; and UNO Vice Chancellor for Business and Finance Carol Kirchner, MBA, CPA, shared the following email to UNO students on June 19:

Mavericks,

We hope your summer is off to a great start, whether you’re taking classes, working, completing an internship, or finding time to recharge.

At UNO, we're committed to being transparent about changes that affect the investment you’ve made in your education while continuing to provide high-quality academic experiences.

With the 2026-2027 academic year approaching, we want to share important information about tuition and course costs for the coming year.

System-Wide Tuition Increase

The University of Nebraska Board of Regents recently approved a 4.25% tuition increase across all NU System campuses for 2026-2027. This increase is intended to mitigate inflationary increases to operating costs as well as limited state and federal funding.

Differential Tuition for Select Programs and Courses

Students at UNO in select programs and courses that require specialized equipment, intensive faculty or clinical supervision, and professional accreditation or licensing requirements, will see a higher tuition charge. While we understand that cost is a major factor in any degree program, these programs were identified based on quality, market position and competitiveness. The “differential tuition rates” in these programs support cost of delivery while allowing UNO to balance market-aligned affordability with academic excellence.

Selection of the following programs for differential tuition rates followed a data-informed, strategic review of delivery costs as well as return on investment for graduates:

  • Aviation: Resident rate for on-campus undergraduate courses.
  • College of Business Administration: All CBA courses.
  • Criminal Justice: Resident rate for both online and on-campus undergraduate courses.
  • Pre-Health (BIOL): Resident and non-resident rates for both online and on-campus undergraduate BIOL courses that are required within pre-health degree pathways.
  • Psychology: Resident rate for both online and on-campus undergraduate and graduate courses.
  • Social Work: Resident rate for online and on-campus undergraduate courses, as well as graduate online courses.
  • Speech Language Pathology: Resident rate for both online and on-campus graduate courses.

What’s Next

Students’ accounts will be calculated and made available for viewing in MavLINK no later than July 22. These rate changes will not affect students enrolled in summer courses.

If you have questions or would like help understanding these changes, please complete a brief form and the appropriate staff member will respond.

We recognize that every dollar invested in your education is significant. As we prepare for the year ahead, we remain committed to affordability, transparency, and student success. Even with these course-based adjustments, UNO continues to offer a high-value education with total program costs that remain competitive with—or lower than—peer institutions across the region. These investments help sustain the faculty expertise, specialized learning environments, and hands-on experiences that prepare you for success during college and beyond.

Whether you’re just beginning your academic journey at UNO or preparing for the final stretch toward graduation, we’re committed to supporting your success every step of the way. Enjoy the rest of your summer, and we look forward to welcoming you back for the Fall semester.

Sincerely,

Phil He, Ph.D.

Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs

Jason Browning, Ph.D., MBA

Vice Chancellor for Institutional Effectiveness and Student Success

Carol Kirchner, MBA, CPA
