The University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) has informed Child Care Center staff and families that the center’s final day of operations will be Friday, May 22.
“This was an incredibly difficult decision, and one we did not make lightly,” Director of Auxiliary Services Denise Kjeldgaard said. “The UNO Child Care Center has been a meaningful part of our campus community for nearly 40 years, and we are deeply grateful to the dedicated staff who have cared for young learners with professionalism, compassion, and commitment. The center has remained underutilized in recent years, operating at just over 50% capacity, and has not returned to full enrollment since early 2020, which is necessary as a self-sustaining auxiliary service. We are providing advance notice to allow families time to secure alternative childcare arrangements and support Child Care Center staff during the transition.”
