➡️ The news: The City of Omaha is creating a Comprehensive Plan that will guide policies and land-use decisions for the next 20 years, influencing quality of life across the city.
UNO’s Center for Public Affairs Research is collaborating with the City of Omaha to design, administer, and analyze a citywide survey using a random-sample approach, widely considered the gold standard in survey research. A total of 5,000 households were selected at random and invited by mailed postcard. Responses from this random sample allow the UNO CPAR research team to make statistical estimates that build confidence in the representativeness of the results.
At the same time, there is a public survey that is open to all Omaha residents who want to share input. Together, both participation paths will provide critical information to shape the plan.
💡 Why it matters: The plan will outline the community’s preferred direction in key areas like land use, development, transit, and housing. It will also help guide decisions about where and how the city grows.
🌎 The big picture: UNO CPAR brings extensive experience designing and administering community surveys and producing actionable data and insights. As part of the Omaha community, CPAR is deeply invested in generating reliable, locally produced evidence that strengthens the community and its institutions.
🔎 What’s next: If you received an orange postcard in the mail with a unique access code, be sure to use that code to complete the survey. If not, you are encouraged to take the public survey.
The survey takes approximately 12 minutes to complete, is open through Feb. 28, and only one person aged 19 or older per household should complete the survey. Responses are confidential and will be anonymized before analysis.
