The University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) flag will be lowered on Sept. 18 in memory of UNO retiree Denny Hanley, who recently passed away. The thoughts and condolences of the university community are with Denny’s loved ones during this time.
About Denny
Denny began his career at UNO on Sept. 6, 2011, and retired as an information technology specialist in the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences (CEHHS) on July 6, 2023.
Denny is survived by his wife, Dr. Mary Ritzdorf; his children, Michelle (Young) Cascio and husband, Alfie Cascio of Plattsmouth, who was lovingly adopted and raised by her parents, Roland and Helen Young of Plainview; Jessica (Hanley) Cella and husband, Dan, of San Diego, California; Jake Hanley and wife, Caitlin, of Omaha; and Amy (Hanley) Popple and husband, Addison, of Omaha. He is also survived by Mary’s children, Connor Ritzdorf and wife, Mary; Evan Ritzdorf and wife, Reanna Russell; and Jordan Ritzdorf, all of Omaha. His loving sisters include Kathleen McGahey, Margaret Ross, and Mary Sindelar, all of Omaha. Grandchildren include Brennan and Claire Cascio; Kennedy (Cascio) and Corey Seffernick; Bailey (Cascio) and Seth Rinderknecht; Tyler, Brody, and Cal Cella; Grayson, Elise, Maren, and Liam Hanley; Noah, Tatum, and Lowen Popple; and Genevieve and Lucy Ritzdorf. He was also blessed with a great-granddaughter, Collins Rinderknecht, and many nieces and nephews.
Denny was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, John J. Hanley, Jr.
