Flag Lowering for William O'Dell

The University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) flag will be lowered on Monday, June 16, in memory of UNO emeritus faculty member William D. O’Dell, Ph.D., who passed away on May 12, 2025, at the age of 82. The thoughts and condolences of the university community are with William’s loved ones during this time.

About William

Joining UNO in 1973, William served as a faculty member in the Department of Biology and also served as Department Chair until his retirement in 1998.

William was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara A. O’Dell (formerly of UNO Criss Library) who passed in 2021. They are survived by their two children Carmell A. Bostock-O’Dell (formerly of UNO Disability Services) and Daniel P. O’Dell (currently of UNO SIDA).

A celebration of life will be held in William and Barbara’s native Ohio later this year.
