Flag Lowering for Hugh Cowdin

The UNO flag will be lowered on Friday, Jan. 24, in memory of retiree Hugh Cowdin.

The UNO flag lowered, blowing in the breeze while on a flag pole.

The University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) flag will be lowered on Friday, Jan. 24, in memory of retiree Hugh Cowdin, who recently passed away. The thoughts and condolences of the university community are with Hugh's loved ones during this time.


About Hugh

Hugh started his career at UNO on Sept. 1, 1968. He retired from his role as Emeritus Professor and Chair of Communication on Dec. 31, 1995.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 50 years, Juliette L. Cowdin. He is survived by his five children, Juliette, Hugh Jr., Colleen, Daniel, and Peter; as well as 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandson. In 2007, Hugh married Catherine Rokes, and is survived by Catherine; and her three children, John, Mark, and Adam; as well as five grandchildren.

Ceremony Information

  • Visitation Friday, January 24, from 4 to 6 P.M., with a Wake Service at 6 P.M. at John A. Gentleman Mortuaries, 72nd Street Chapel, Omaha.

  • Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, January 25, at 10 A.M. at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 1920 N. 102nd St., Omaha.
