UNO Names Katie Welchans Employee of the Month, February 2024

Welchans was praised for going above and beyond to support her colleagues and fostering an inclusive atmosphere for students, faculty, and staff.

Katie Welchans is an Office Associate for the Department of History in UNO's College of Arts and Sciences.

Katie Welchans, Office Associate for the Department of History, has been named UNO’s Employee of the Month for February 2024. Welchans was praised for going above and beyond to support her colleagues and fostering an inclusive atmosphere for students, faculty, and staff.

One nominator said that “Katie has been serving as the Office Associate in the Department of History for a little over a year and has quickly become one of the most valued office staff members in the college. I regularly hear from other administrators in the college about what an asset she is to the university. Katie has been essential in creating a more welcoming environment for students and faculty within the department.”

Welchans has proactively learned new tools to support those in her department.

“When her department chair wanted to start a digital newsletter, Katie got trained on HubSpot, met several times with our college communicator, and then produced a very complete newsletter,” one nominator said. “She did this with very minimal supervision, seeking out available training resources, and employing her own creativity. This is just one example of how Katie goes above and beyond the usual expectations.”

For being named as Employee of the Month, Welchans will receive a certificate, a hot/cold tumbler provided by the UNO Bookstore, a monetary award, two tickets to a UNO sporting event, and use of a designated parking space.
