Mary Kate Hoffmann, Senior Licensed Mental Health Practitioner in Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS).

Mary Kate Hoffmann, MSW, LICSW, a Senior Licensed Mental Health Practitioner in UNO Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), has been named UNO's Employee of the Month for January 2024. Hoffmann was praised for her dedication to supporting the UNO community, willingness to collaborate with others, and ability to encourage her colleagues.

One nominator said that "she has been an integral part of the CAPS team. As one of our senior therapists, she is often the oil that keeps us moving. Being a mental health therapist, especially in these times, is challenging and heavy. We can usually rely on Mary Kate to bring in the light and laughter into the office, boosting team morale."

To continue her professional development, Mary Kate attends multiple meetings, workshops, and trainings. She shares her wealth of knowledge with her colleagues, connecting them with resources on-campus and in the community.

"Mary Kate is able to provide so much insight and experience to other newer therapists about theory, practice, and counseling techniques. She is also a resident expert on suicide prevention and the best practices and local options for referral and additional resources. Mary Kate not only provides the whole office with trainings and information, but regularly supervises our social work interns and new students who will become the next generation of counselors," one nominator said. "She has a passion for suicide prevention and has introduced several evidence-based suicide prevention programs and trainings to the university. She never hesitates to field an emergency client that needs mental health support.

In addition to her position in CAPS, Hoffmann liaisons with the UNO Gender and Sexuality Resource Center, as well as Housing and Residence Life. "She is a person who is well-connected on campus and can share the knowledge about UNO systems and policies and partnerships/resources across departments," a nominator said. Hoffmann also teaches at UNO, is involved in multiple organizations, and advocates for mental health and various populations.

For being named as Employee of the Month, Hoffmann will receive a certificate, a hot/cold tumbler provided by the UNO Bookstore, a monetary award, two tickets to a UNO sporting event, and use of a designated parking space.

Congratulations, Mary Kate!
