UNO Completes Four-Year Review From Higher Learning Commission

The University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) has successfully completed its recent Year 4 Assurance Review by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) following an intensive, thorough assessment of the university’s efforts to support student learning, faculty advancement, and staff support over the past four years, including throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are incredibly thankful to the Higher Learning Commission for their dutiful attention to detail, affirming that UNO meets their highest standards of quality and performance,” Chancellor Joanne Li, Ph.D., CFA, said. “As a premier urban metropolitan university, we are pleased to be able to provide accountability to our students; faculty and staff; the community; and local and state leadership. HLC’s stamp of approval is an important part of that process."

The Year 4 Review is part of the HLC’s Open Pathway model, which UNO transitioned to following a 10-year reaffirmation of the university’s accreditation in 2018.

Jill Russell, UNO’s accreditation liaison officer, thanked the UNO community for their collaboration, support, and assistance during this review process.

“It is extremely rewarding not only to have the work our university has collectively accomplished since 2018 recognized by the Higher Learning Commission, but knowing the strain that so many institutions, ours included, were under due to the COVID-19 pandemic makes the commission’s report that much more impressive and worthy of celebration. This acknowledgement of UNO’s quality efforts is evidence of the excellent work and dedication of our faculty and staff."

HLC is a long-standing and highly respected federally-approved accreditor for degree-granting post-secondary institutions in the United States. The University of Nebraska Omaha has been accredited continuously by HLC (and its forerunner, the North Central Association) since 1939.

Earlier this year, Chancellor Li was named to serve as a member on the Board of Trustees for the HLC.
