Transitioning from military service to life as a student can be a challenge, but the Military-Connected Resource Center (MCRC) at UNO is helping students find their way.
KMTV 3 News Now recently featured the story of Justin Rohloff, a marine who happened to bump into the right person at the right time to begin his journey toward a degree as a UNO student.
Rohloff happened to meet MCRC Director Harley Barmore, Ph.D., who helped him understand how to use his veteran education benefits to earn his degree. A 21-year Air Force veteran himself, Barmore told KMTV that veterans should not leave these benefits on the table and that the MCRC at UNO can help them find their fit.
Barmore pointed to community as a primary focus of the center. "Getting students engaged, making them feel part of a bigger community. Making them feel like they fit in. That they're part of something that's this life betterment; that is going to college and getting an education and learning about the world around them. We're all part of that," said Barmore
