Karen Gilsdorf reacts emotionally to being named July 2022 Employee of the Month

Karen Gilsdorf, a clerical assistant for the College of Business Administration Undergraduate Advising office, was recently recognized as UNO's July 2022 Employee of the Month by members of the UNO Celebration Committee.

Karen Gilsdorf, a clerical assistant for the College of Business Administrations' undergraduate advising office, has been named UNO's Employee of the Month for July 2022.

Gilsdorf was nominated for her interpersonal skills, institutional knowledge, and communication abilities when it comes to helping get advisors connected with students and making sure the college's advisors can do their jobs effectively. She was surprised by the UNO Celebration Committee on Wednesday, July 20, in celebration of her recognition.

"Karen oversees so much of the work needed to ensure that advising can happen," one nominator wrote. "She prepares advisors' calendars and student materials; gives direction and guidance to student workers; communicates with students across campus; and dozens of other tasks that keep the office on track and running smoothly."

And this support isn't reserved for just the advising office. She helps colleagues from across the college and university.

"Because my office is behind a key-access door, Karen willingly accepts packages on my behalf. She often helps me with administrative tasks although I am technically in a different department," another nominator noted.

A long-time member of the Maverick family, Karen has been a consistently welcome presence.

"She is the first phone call for many to get them where they need to go," her nomination said. "In addition to communicating with kindness and respect, Karen also responds to all emails to the CBA Undergraduate Advising inbox in a timely manner ... with clear, easily accessible information."

Above all, Karen is recognized as the "heart" of her office for the energy and passion for UNO's mission she brings each day.

"From the big day-to-day tasks to the little things Karen does to make work life Karen has consistently gone above and beyond expectations for students and colleagues to make CBA a great place to learn and work."

For being awarded as Employee of the Month, Gilsdorf will receive a certificate, a hot/cold tumbler provided by the UNO Bookstore, a monetary award, two tickets to a UNO sporting event, and the use of a designated parking space.
