Types of International Agreements

Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)

MOUs are general statements of mutual interest to explore opportunities for collaboration between UNO and the prospective partnering institution. These are explicitly non-binding and do not allow for commitment of university funds, staff, facilities, or other university resources.

At UNO, all university partnerships begin with an MOU.

International Agreements

There are many type of International Agreements, which are formal contracts that detail the terms and conditions of specific forms of collaboration (ex. mobility programs, Dual Degree programs, etc). International Agreements are legal and binding on both parties and are necessary when there is a commitment of university resources including funds, staff, facilities, or other UNO assets.

Proposal and Approval Process

All agreement types will go through the following process.
  1. Request MOU from International Programs via email
  2. INPR provides template
  3. Internal approval from UNO
  4. UNO signatories sign two copies
  5. INPR sends one original to the partner and retains the other copy for UNO Records
All potential partners will be vetted with the UNO compliance office and import/export control prior to entering into any of the agreements below.
  • Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)
  • Exchange and Mobility Agreement
