Exclusive Opportunities for Civic Engagement Alumni

UNO and partners Arizona State University (ASU) and Kennesaw State University (KSU) implemented six workshops exclusively for YSEALI Civic Engagement Alumni in various locations in Southeast Asia.

The 2023 In-Country Workshop, "Toward a Thriving Democracy: Strategies for More Representative Civic Participation," provided an opportunity for YSEALI Civic Engagement Alumni to reconnect with like-minded fellows dedicated to civic work, learn tools to motivate and engage stakeholders, and exchange ideas for potential collaborative projects. The workshop concentrated on selected issues facing Southeast Asia civic organizations, including academic institutions, NGOs, and government entities. It also discussed the impacts of representation, equity, and strategy on civic participation and challenges in democracy.

News & Events
The U.S. State Department consistently hosts virtual events that are generally free for the public. These news articles and event posts are targeted to an ASEAN audience.

Online Courses
Online classes in English are available to fellows interested in gaining leadership, business and entrepreneurship, civic leadership, and public management skills. These recorded classes feature U.S. university professors and experts in the field.

Regional Workshops
Professional development opportunities are available to YSEALI alumni with the purpose of growing your network, learning through hands-on training, and gaining the tools necessary to address issues in your community. Most of the regional workshops will be held virtually, so you can participate from anywhere.

Grants Competition
YSEALI Seeds for the Future is a small grants competition for young leaders in Southeast Asia. Grants have already been awarded for 2021. If you're interested in applying for 2022, check out the Q&A on the website and contact their email yseali@culturalvistas.org.

YSEALI Mentor Series
Are you interested in hearing stories from other YSEALI alumni? YSEALI mentors and various speakers have recorded webinars to share their expertise on specific YSEALI topics: civic engagement, sustainable development and natural resources management, and entrepreneurship and economic growth. There are also resources on personal and career development (among others).
