Omaha, NE – The University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) proudly announces that Nadeen Osman, a senior studying public health and philosophy with minors in ethics and human rights studies, has been selected as one of the 2025 cohort of Newman Civic Fellows. The fellowship represents a group of student civic leaders from 38 states, Washington, D.C., and Mexico.
Osman has demonstrated outstanding leadership in advancing equity, education, and public health. At UNO, she is actively involved in student-led organizations, including the Public Health Student Association, where she has launched initiatives addressing issues such as substance abuse and period poverty. Beyond campus, she has worked with Nebraska’s University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities, which is housed at UNMC’s Munroe-Meyer Institute (MMI), the Nebraska EmployABILITY Project, and the MMI-UNO Trailblazers Program to support individuals with cognitive disabilities and promote accessibility.
“I’ve come to greatly enjoy this work – both the meaningful lessons it has taught me, and the connections it has allowed me to make with students.”
The Newman Civic Fellowship is a yearlong program that recognizes students who stand out for their leadership potential and commitment to creating positive change in communities. The fellowship is named for the late Frank Newman, one of Campus Compact’s founders, who advocated for civic engagement in higher education.
In the spirit of Newman’s leadership, each fellow is nominated by their campus president or chancellor, who is invited to select one community-committed student from their campus each year. Osman was nominated by UNO Chancellor Joanne Li, Ph.D., CFA, for her commitment to public service and effecting positive change in her community.
Through the fellowship, Campus Compact provides these students with learning and networking opportunities that help to nurture their development as civic leaders. Programming emphasizes personal, professional, and civic growth that can empower them to collaborate effectively across disciplines and create large-scale positive change.
The Campus Compact website provides more information about Osman and the other student leaders from the 2025 cohort.
