Omaha, NE – What happened: The University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) marked a milestone with the 50th Annual European Studies Conference, held Oct. 9-11 at the Barbara Weitz Community Engagement Center. Hosted by UNO’s College of Arts and Sciences, the event brought together scholars from around the world to share research and explore topics ranging from art and literature to politics and human rights.
UNO students had the opportunity to perform their own work as part of the conference, adding a student voice to the interdisciplinary dialogue. This year’s theme, “Acknowledging the Past/Envisioning the Future,” framed three keynote presentations, including discussions on poetry across cultures and contemporary political ideologies and a special virtual conversation with Holocaust survivor and artist Samuel Bak.
The conference also featured panels on timely issues such as digital humanities, Black European studies, World War II legacies, and human rights. Now in its 50th year, the European Studies Conference continues to serve as a community for scholarship, creativity, and cultural exchange at UNO.
