Celebrating Innovation and Collaboration: The 2024 Faculty Honors Convocation

The annual Faculty Honors Convocation continues to serve as a testament to the university’s commitment to fostering academic excellence, innovation, and collaborative impact. On September 26, 2024, faculty from a wide array of disciplines were recognized for their contributions.

Honoring Excellence in Teaching, Research, Service-learning, and Engagement

The 2024 Faculty Honors Convocation reflects the diverse talents of UNO’s faculty and their commitment to academic excellence in its many forms. The work of the faculty honorees represents the spirit of innovation and setting new standards for teaching, mentoring, community engagement, and research and creative activity on the campus.

In recognition of their dedication and achievements, the following faculty were presented with campus awards for excellence:

  • Distinguished Research or Creative Activity Award: Dr. Alexey Kamenskiy, Professor, Biomechanics
  • Excellence in Teaching Award: Dr. Michele Desmarais, Associate Professor, Religious Studies.
  • Outstanding Faculty Service Learning Award: Dr. Deanna House, Assistant Professor, Information Systems & Quantitative Analysis.
  • Outstanding Graduate Mentor Award: Dr. Abby Bjornsen-Ramig, Professor, Counseling.
  • Faculty Excellence in Engagement Award: Dr. Jodi Benenson, Associate Professor, Public Administration.
  • Excellence in Part-time Teaching Award: Dr. Ashley Harlow, Instructor, Business Administration
  • Outstanding Honors Faculty Award: Dr. William Cooney, Instructor, Communication

In the coming days, watch for additional news articles that showcase the remarkable accomplishments of these campus-wide award recipients.

In addition to campus awards, several college awards were presented to faculty identified by their peers as excelling in their craft. Nine faculty received Alumni Outstanding Teaching Awards, sponsored by the Alumni Association. Seven faculty were also presented with college outstanding research and creative activity awards, sponsored by the Office of Research and Creative Activity. Faculty granted appointments for named chairs and professorships were also recognized at the event.
