Weitz Innovation and Excellence Funds Pause on Applications

Applications for the Weitz Innovation and Excellence Funds will reopen in December, while funding awards will continue on the original July timeline.

Over the past three years, the Weitz Innovation and Excellence Funds have supported ideas designed to strengthen the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO). Now, the program is taking a brief pause to learn from those who have received funding and use that feedback to shape its next round.

From 3D printing for healthcare education and workforce development to AI-CCORE, Weitz-funded projects demonstrate the range of innovation happening across UNO and the ways faculty, staff, and students are using new approaches to prepare learners and serve the community.

As the initiative celebrates three successful years, UNO is taking time to look at what has been accomplished and how the program can continue to support innovative work across campus.

  • UNO will pause the upcoming Weitz Innovation and Excellence Funds application period until December while the university gathers feedback from previous recipients through a survey.

  • As UNO prepares for the next phase of funded initiatives, feedback from previous recipients will be an important part of continuing that success.

  • The pause will allow UNO to learn from the experiences of those who have participated in the program and use that feedback to inform the next application cycle.

  • Importantly, the change to the application timeline will not change the funding award timeline. Awards will continue to be made on the original July schedule.
