Angie Centarri Named 2026 Academic Advisor of the Year

The Academic Advisor of the Year Award recognizes undergraduate, professional academic advisors for their exceptional service to students, their colleagues, and/or the university.

Angie Centarri, Academic Advisor II in the Department of Psychology in the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) College of Arts and Sciences, was named the 2025-2026 UNO Academic Advisor of the Year. She received a framed certificate and $500 award at the Spring Staff Appreciation and Awards Celebration help on April 30, 2026.

Centarri’s colleagues described her as “an indispensable advisor to her students and an outstanding colleague.”

One student nominator shared the following about her dedication to student belonging and success:

“Angie has made a meaningful impact on my academic journey at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. She does not treat advising as simply scheduling classes, she takes time to understand my goals, strengths, and challenges. Because of her guidance, I feel more confident in my academic paths and better prepared to maximize my educational experience. Angie consistently goes above and beyond with kindness, positivity, and availability. She approaches challenges with patience and thoughtful solutions, always making me feel supported rather than judged.”

Along with her responsibilities supporting her student caseload in psychology, Centarri also currently serves as the UNO Academic Advising Council (AAC) Vice President, a role she was elected to after previously holding the positions of Treasurer/Fundraising Committee Chair from 2024-2026 and Communications Specialist from 2022-2024. Her steadfast commitment to her students, colleagues, and campus community has strengthened the council’s mission of supporting student success.

The Academic Advisor of the Year Award recognizes undergraduate, professional academic advisors for their exceptional service to students, their colleagues, and/or the university. The award was created in 2015 to recognize and honor UNO professional advisors for their:

  • Contribution and service to students and academic advising on campus
  • Advocacy and collaboration for students and academic advising best practices
  • Initiative and attitude in improving academic advising
