Nakita Williams, operations manager for the Office of Engagement located in the Barbara Weitz Community Engagement Center (Weitz CEC) at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO), has been named UNO's Employee of the Month for April 2026. She was praised for her exceptional customer service, operational excellence, and commitment to creating a welcoming campus experience.
Williams' nominator said that: "Since May 2023, guests mentioned Nakita specifically (or as a member of the team) in 48% of all post-event surveys; staff satisfaction averaged 4.80/5 and overall experience 4.79/5. With 70 comments naming Nakita directly, and 131 praising the staff, team, or welcome desk, it shows that she is a prominent part of the overall experience. Guests consistently describe her as ‘helpful, friendly, responsive, accommodating, welcoming, professional, and amazing.’ Many of those entries represent unique external community partner organizations served at the Weitz CEC—each one a first impression of their experience at UNO done right."
Her impact is especially evident in the experiences she creates for guests and community partners.
"Nakita is the gateway to the university at the Weitz CEC. She greets challenges with a welcoming personality, calm, and fast execution—handling last-minute room changes for large meetings, quick parking solutions that keep events on time, pop-in fixes for urgent needs, and on-the-spot A/V adjustments that keep meetings moving. As she has stepped into expanded responsibilities, she has helped centralize accountability across facilities, parking, reservations, partner onboarding, and billing. The result is steady operations, protected revenue, and consistently excellent events that reflect well on UNO and its contribution to the community."
In addition to her operational excellence, Williams was also recognized for her leadership and mentorship of student staff.
"She leads her students exceptionally well by delegating responsibility, providing direct feedback, and investing in their growth. Her team is known for being dependable, prepared, and consistent, and partners across the CEC frequently praise her contributions to their experience on campus."
For being named Employee of the Month, Williams received a certificate, a hot/cold tumbler provided by The Maverick Store, a monetary award, two tickets to a UNO sporting event, and use of a designated parking space.
