Major tech changes are coming to the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) this summer. Here’s everything you need to know to ensure a smooth transition.
➡️ What’s happening:
-
UNO is joining the entire University of Nebraska (NU) System in the Future Ready Cloud Collaboration Workspace to unify Microsoft 365 across the University of Nebraska at Kearney, Lincoln, Omaha, and the Office of the President. UNMC is not in scope for this project at this time.
-
UNO’s migration begins May 19 and will run through early August.
📝 What to expect: This project affects everyone at UNO. Here are three things to expect during the migration:
-
TrueYou Username: After your migration, you'll use your TrueYou Username in the format NUID@nebraska.edu to log in to Office 365, SAP/Firefly, university computers, and certain departmental apps.
-
Email: Your email address won’t change during or after the migration. If you currently use multiple accounts, all your messages will land in one inbox, but you’ll send from your primary address. During the transition, emails internal to the NU System will appear as @nebraska.edu. All external sending and receiving of emails will continue to be your @unomaha.edu address. After the UNO migration is complete, all internal and external emails will be your @unomaha.edu as they are today.
-
Shared Links: After migration, shared links from OneDrive and SharePoint will no longer work and must be re-created and reshared. Folder-level permissions in SharePoint will migrate, but external users will need to be granted access during the transition period.
👍 Project benefits: Once the migration is complete, UNO users can expect:
-
Seamless Collaboration: Faculty, staff, and students across campuses will be able to collaborate more effectively on a single Microsoft 365 platform, eliminating the need for multiple accounts or logins.
-
Future-Ready Tools: Access to advanced technologies like Microsoft Copilot Chat AI and Teams Phone to support productivity and innovation.
-
Secure Storage Solutions: Compliant storage options through OneDrive, SharePoint, and Teams for research and collaborative projects.
-
Improved Cybersecurity: Unified accounts and sign-ins will enhance security while maintaining individual campus email identities.
