Implementation

All existing general education courses, and any new courses, must be approved/reapproved by the General Education Committee before Fall 2028 to ensure alignment with the new general education requirements (Section IV).  (Section V.c. of the General Education Proposal 2025)

Critical thinking is the ability to analyze, evaluate, and synthesize information to make reasoned judgments and solve complex problems. It involves questioning assumptions, assessing evidence, and drawing logical conclusions.

MavEd combines critical thinking and information literacy into a single transferable outcome because they are deeply interconnected and often function in tandem.

MavEd courses are organized into three groups:

  1. Fundamental Skills
  2. Breadth of Knowledge
  3. Individual and Social Responsibility

There are four fundamental skills: writing, oral communication, quantitative literacy, and data literacy.  Each course in group 2 and 3 must intentionally reinforce at least one of those skills.
