MavEd emphasizes three key transferable learning outcomes, which are embedded in every general education course:
- Integrative Learning & Reflection
- Critical Thinking & Information Literacy
- Intercultural Awareness
Integrative learning is the ability to synthesize knowledge and skills from multiple sources, disciplines, or experiences, and apply them to new, complex, or real-world situations.

In the context of MavEd, reflection refers to a deliberate process in which students: Think critically about their learning experiences, synthesize insights from course content and activities, and connect that learning to their personal, academic, or civic development.

Critical thinking is the ability to analyze, evaluate, and synthesize information to make reasoned judgments and solve complex problems. It involves questioning assumptions, assessing evidence, and drawing logical conclusions.

MavEd courses are organized into three groups:
- Fundamental Skills
- Breadth of Knowledge
- Individual and Social Responsibility
There are four fundamental skills: writing, oral communication, quantitative literacy, and data literacy. Each course in group 2 and 3 must intentionally reinforce at least one of those skills.
