MavEd: Shaping the Future of General Education at UNO
UNO’s general education curriculum (MavEd) is evolving, and with it comes an opportunity for faculty and staff to help shape its impact.
Whether you’re looking to redesign a course, enhance your teaching strategies, or engage in deeper conversations about student learning, we invite you to be part of this exciting transformation.
Through a series of workshops and professional learning communities, we are creating spaces where faculty can come together, exchange ideas, and ensure that general education is meaningful and effective for our students.
Design or Redesign Your Course
Align with UNO’s MavEd Framework requirements—join the incentivized MavEd Course Design Workshop to create a course ready to submit for approval.
MavEd Course Design Workshops
Realizing the Hope of General Education: General Education and the Center for Faculty Excellence offer an incentivized, professional development workshop during the Summer session on designing, or redesigning, courses that align with UNO’s MavEd Framework requirements.
- These workshops include two in-person meetings and an asynchronous Canvas course and will be available each academic term (fall, spring, and summer). Fall and spring will be an 8-week workshop and summer will be a 5-week workshop. Upon completion of the workshop, a faculty member will have developed a course that is ready to submit to the MavEd course approval process.
Faculty can express their interest in participating during a future term by completing this short interest form.
Additional details about upcoming opportunities will be shared soon. Interested faculty can email Matt Tracy with questions.
Enhance Your Teaching with Revised General Education Curriculum
Join the incentivized MavEd Orientation to refine your strategies, support student success, and gain valuable insights.
MavEd Orientation: Teaching for Impact in UNO’s Revised Gen Ed Curriculum
Not every faculty member will be involved in general education course (re)design, but all faculty teaching within the curriculum play a vital role in its success. Unlike the MavEd Course Design Workshops, which focus on developing or redesigning courses, the incentivized MavEd Orientation is designed for faculty who are not involved in course design but still want to enhance their teaching within the new framework.
This initiative is for faculty who want to:
- Better understand the expectations of UNO’s revised general education curriculum,
- Refine their teaching strategies to create more engaging and impactful learning experiences,
- Explore ways to support student success in general education courses,
- Gain insights into general education assessment practices.
MavEd Orientation is offered during the fall and spring terms. More details, including dates and times, will be shared at the start of the term. If you would like to express your interest in participating, please complete this short form.

Collaborate with MavEd Innovators PLC
Work with peers, explore best practices, and drive innovation in general education at UNO.
MavEd Innovators Professional Learning Community (PLC): Advancing General Education Across Campus
Some of the most powerful transformations happen in ongoing conversations with peers. That’s why we launched the MavEd Innovators Professional Learning Community (PLC)! We envision this MavEd PLC as a think-tank where faculty and staff can collaborate, exchange ideas, and push the boundaries of general education together.
Unlike the Course Design Workshop, which focuses on individual course alignment, the MavEd PLC will address the broader context of the curriculum by exploring how we innovate, support each other, and make general education stronger across the university.
Together, we will discuss best practices in teaching and learning, find new ways to celebrate faculty innovation and successes, and foster a campus-wide culture of continuous improvement in general education.
Faculty can express their interest in participating by completing this short interest form. Additional details will be shared in the fall.
