An area of concentration in Media Communication includes coursework in both broadcasting and journalism.

You will investigate mass media, from its institutions, history, and laws to the ways in which it impacts our culture. You are also able to create your own creative broadcasting and/or journalism projects. Media Communication is a versatile concentration and helps develop skills and understanding useful in a variety of settings.

Concentration Requirements (Blocks 1 & 2)* 30 hours
JMC 1500 Introduction to Journalism & Media Communication 3 hours
JMC 2200 Media Production Principles 3 hours
Additional 24 hours from Journalism and Media Communication (JMC). Up to 9 hours in coursework from Communication Studies (CMST) or other relevant content areas may count toward degree requirements with approval. 24 hours

* Must include at least 12 hours of upper level credit completed at UNO

A minimum of 120 hours are required for the Bachelor of Multidisciplinary Studies degree.

Additional Information:

  • An optional Allied Field of up to 9 hours may be taken from Communication Studies (CMST).
  • JMC 2100 and 2104 Media Writing Lab and Lecture is required third writing course for this concentration.
  • Most courses in the School of Communication require a 2.25 or higher grade point average.
  • No course from a two-year institution which is also offered as an upper division course at UNO can be used in the area of concentration.
  • Students interested in graduate studies should contact the graduate chair in the School of Communication to make sure necessary classes are taken to enter graduate programs.
