An area of concentration in Environmental Science allows you to focus on chemical pollutants, environmental geology, local and regional planning, environmental biology, and monitoring of the environment with regard to conservation and safety issues.

It also provides the necessary knowledge to pursue an advanced degree, if desired.

Concentration Requirements (Blocks 1 & 2)* 30 hours
ENVN 2010 Environmental Problems and Solutions 2 hour
BIOL 1330 Environmental Biology 3 hours
CHEM 1010/1014 Chemistry in the Environment and Society/Lab 4 hours
GEOL 1010 Environmental Geology 3 hours
GEOG 1030 Our Dynamic Planet: Introduction to Physical Geography or GEOG 1050 Human-Environment Geography 4 hours

Additional 14 hours of coursework from Environmental Studies (ENVN) or coursework from any of the Environmental Science concentrations.

Courses for the Environmental Sciences concentrations can be found through the College of Arts & Science Environmental Science academic catalog pages.

* Must include at least 12 hours of upper level credit completed at UNO

A minimum of 120 hours are required for the Bachelor of Multidisciplinary Studies degree.

  • It is recommended that Environmental Science students choose a complementary field from one of the other Environmental Science option areas.

  • BIOL 1450 Biology I (5 hours)
  • BIOL 1750 Biology II (5 hours)
  • CHEM 1140/1144 Fundamental of College Chemistry (5 hours)
  • CHEM 2210/2214 Fundamentals of Organic Chemistry (5 hours)
  • ECON 2200 Principles of Micro Economics
  • ENVN 4600 GIS Applications for Environmental Science
  • ENVN 4820 Introduction to Environmental Law and Regulation
  • GEOG 1090 Introduction to Geospatial Sciences (4 hours)
  • GEOG 3530/3534 Cartography and GIS (4 hours)
  • PHIL 3180 Environmental Ethics
  • PHYS 1050/1054 Introduction to Physics (5 hours)
  • A statistics course
