General Accessibility and Support
The Accessibility Services Center (ASC) serves as a central point of contact for accessibility-related questions and can help connect students, employees, and visitors with the appropriate campus resources and services.
If you encounter an accessibility concern on campus such as building access barriers, snow or ice removal issues, construction-related obstacles, or technology accessibility problems you may submit an Accessibility Concern Report. For urgent concerns or issues that arise outside of normal business hours, contact UNO Public Safety.
Visitors who need accessibility support for a campus event or activity should reach out in advance to the event organizer or Sarah Weil sweil@unomaha.edu, Director of Civil Rights Compliance and ADA/504 Coordinator.
Accessible Parking
Accessible parking spaces are located throughout campus near building entrances and other key destinations and are clearly marked with the international symbol of accessibility. To park in an accessible space on campus, individuals must display a state-issued accessible parking permit or license plate and have a valid UNO parking permit. State-issued permits must also be registered with Parking and Transit Services.
Accessible parking is available to both students and visitors. Visitors using accessible spaces must comply with campus parking requirements, including obtaining the appropriate parking permit or pay-to-park access in addition to displaying a valid state-issued accessible parking permit.
Individuals who need temporary accessible parking should work with their health care provider and state Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to obtain a temporary permit, then contact Parking and Transit Services for assistance with campus parking arrangements.
Parking and Transit Services can assist with accessible parking registration, permits, citations, parking access, and other parking-related questions.
Transit and Transportation
UNO provides accessible transportation options to help students, faculty, staff, and visitors travel throughout the university and the Omaha community. All UNO shuttle buses are fully accessible and can accommodate wheelchairs and other mobility devices. Accessible shuttle service is available between Dodge and Scott campuses at no cost, and reservations are not required.
Additional transportation support may be available for individuals with disabilities. The Accessibility Services Center (ASC) may coordinate specialized shuttle routes for eligible students, and MOBY ADA/Paratransit services are available through the MavRIDE program for eligible riders.
Through the MavRIDE program, students, faculty, and staff can use their MavCARD as a bus pass for unlimited rides on Metro Transit and ORBT routes at no additional cost.
Access and Facilities
UNO is committed to providing accessible facilities and continuously improving access across campus. Accessible routes are incorporated throughout campus pathways, and efforts are ongoing to identify and remove barriers. If you encounter an accessibility concern related to building access, pathways, or campus facilities, please submit an Accessibility Concern Report.
UNO also provides inclusive amenities, including all-gender restrooms and lactation rooms. Locations can be found through campus maps and accessibility resources.
In the event of an emergency, individuals who need evacuation assistance should proceed to designated assembly or rally points and await assistance from emergency personnel. Elevators should not be used during emergency evacuations.
Communication Access and Interpreting Services
UNO is committed to providing communication access for deaf and hard of hearing individuals participating in university-sponsored programs, activities, classes, and events. Sign language interpreting services may be available for events held on campus and throughout the state.
Requests for interpreting services should be made through the Accessibility Services Center (ASC) or the designated event coordinator as early as possible to allow time for arrangements to be made.
