Assigning Advising Holds (NAV Service Indicator)

Advising Holds (or NAV Service Indicators) prevent all initial registration activity. Prior to pre-registration every semester, each college/program defines criteria for which students should receive this hold automatically assigned. UNO Staff with approved access can assign or remove the Advising Hold at any time.

Advising Hold Assignment/Release Timelines

All Advising Holds are released (current semester) – after first week of classes

All Advising Holds are Mass Assigned (future semester) – One month prior to semester schedule go-live

Advising Hold - Assign and Release

Service indicators used for Advising Holds can be assigned and released prior to Mass Assign. If you are pre-Advising a student and want to prevent a Advising Hold (NAV) from being assigned during the Mass Assign process, you can Assign and Release at any time for an upcoming semester.

Once an Advising Hold has been present for a Term(s), the Mass Assign Process will not re-apply another Advising Hold (NAV).

Viewing Advising Holds

MavLink refers to any sort of student account hold, such as an advising flag, as a service indicator. Visually, MavLINK uses an icon to signal that a student’s account is in need of attention or service of some kind. MavLINK refers to any hold on a student’s account as negative. The negative icon will appear on every page in a student’s record until it is removed.
