On Wednesday, January 13, 2016, Barack Obama, the 44th President of the United States, visited the University of Nebraska Omaha (UNO). More than 10,000 people packed UNO's Baxter Arena to hear the president speak.

Presidential Award for Economic Opportunity

UNO was the recipient of the Presidential Award for the Economic Opportunity category of the 2014 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll.

This award recognizes institutions with service programs that build economic independence, increase family stability, and create more sustainable and resilient communities. Institutions in this category are engaged in service that improves the financial well-being and security of economically disadvantaged individuals.
