For decades, UNO International Programs has offered high-quality programs that bring global learners to UNO for immersive, short-term educational and cultural experiences.

Designed in collaboration with UNO faculty, staff, and campus partners, these programs combine thematic learning, hands-on activities, and community engagement, offering participants meaningful opportunities to experience U.S. university life, connect with the Omaha community, and engage in real-world learning beyond the classroom.

Custom Programs & Summer Institutes Overview

For over 50 years, UNO International Programs has offered a variety of custom programs throughout the year, with many programs taking place during the summer months. These short-term, tailored programs are designed in collaboration with international partners to meet specific goals.

Past and sample program areas include:

  • English language programs for academic, professional, or discipline-specific purposes
  • English for specific fields such as business, education, or community engagement
  • Teacher education and English pedagogy programs for non-native English teachers
  • American culture and society programs
  • Introduction to the U.S. university experience for pre-university and visiting students
  • Leadership and professional development programs

Summer Institutes are short-term, immersive opportunities for international participants to learn, engage, and experience life in Omaha and the United States. Offered during the U.S. summer months, May - August, these theme-based programs bring individuals from around the world to UNO for academic exploration, cultural exchange, and hands-on learning beyond the traditional classroom.

Summer Institutes typically last two to three weeks, are non-credit, and are taught in English. Program themes, schedules, and application details vary by institute. Each institute includes immersive instruction, cultural and educational site visits in Omaha and nearby cities, and guided reflection activities.Summer Institute Offerings are below!
