30 Years of Impact: Jet Linx Aviation Institute Golf Classic Supports the Next Generation of Aviation Leaders

For three decades, the University of Nebraska at Omaha's Aviation Institute Golf Classic has brought together aviation supporters, industry partners, alumni, and community members to make a lasting difference for students pursuing careers in aviation. The 2026 event continued that tradition, raising more than $50,000 to support aviation student success at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO).

Thanks to the continued partnership and generous support of Jet Linx Aviation, the event has grown into a powerful source of support for aviation students. Established in 1996, the golf outing entered a new chapter in 2013 when Jet Linx Aviation partnered with the Aviation Institute, becoming the Jet Linx Aviation Institute Golf Classic. Through this enduring partnership, the event has grown into one of the Aviation Institute's most important annual fundraising efforts, providing scholarships and expanding opportunities for students pursuing careers throughout the aviation industry. The 2026 Golf Classic welcomed 144 golfers and 24 sponsors who came together to invest in the future of aviation. While the event is a day of networking, competition, and community, its impact extends far beyond the course by providing scholarships and resources that help students pursue their educational and career goals.

“The impact of this event can be seen through the students who are able to continue their aviation education because of the support from our partners and participants,” said Scott Vlasek, Director of the Aviation Institute. “The Jet Linx Aviation Golf Classic is more than a fundraiser; it is an investment in the future of aviation and in the talented students who will lead our industry for years to come.”

A highlight of this year’s event was the opportunity for golfers to connect directly with Aviation Institute students. Students were present throughout the day, sharing their experiences and representing the program they are working hard to complete. Many attendees commented on how much they enjoyed meeting the students and how impressed they were by their professionalism and passion for aviation.

The event also featured a new fundraising opportunity. Natalie Henson, an Aviation Institute student and member of UNO’s Women’s Golf Team, hosted a special fundraising activity on one of the holes, raising more than $500 to support the cause. The Aviation Institute looks forward to expanding opportunities for student involvement in future tournaments, further strengthening the connection between donors and the students they support.

The success of the Jet Linx Aviation Institute Golf Classic has helped the Aviation Institute expand scholarship opportunities for students. Today, the program supports three scholarships annually, has established four endowed scholarships through the UN Foundation, and will complete two additional endowed scholarships in 2027.

These opportunities provide critical support for students as they prepare to enter a growing aviation industry. By reducing financial barriers and investing in student success, the Golf Classic helps ensure talented aviation students have the resources they need to achieve their goals.
