Central to UNO’s mission and strategic plan is community engagement. 

2024-25 Campus Community Engagement

The following represents data for the 2024-25 fiscal year and/or summer 2024, fall 2024, and spring 2025 terms. Institutional community engagement numbers are coordinated through the Office of Engagement and in collaboration with many other UNO departments.


266 Community Partners

Nonprofit and community organizations, businesses, government agencies, and P-12 schools that partner with UNO.

8,035 UNO Students

Engaging with the community in and outside of the classroom.

  • 5,691 UNO students in service learning and community-based learning courses.
  • 2,344 UNO students engaged in co-curricular service activities. Students in co-curricular engagement also represent student-athletes, Goodrich Scholars, TRIO students, Engaged Scholars (CES), The Collaborative Interns, and students participating in campus-wide volunteer events.

504 Engaged Courses

UNO courses with a service learning and/or community-based learning component.

UNO Students Volunteering

  • Student-athletes volunteered 4,579 hours with local community and nonprofit organizations.
  • Student interns for The Collaborative volunteered 4,680 hours with local community and nonprofit organizations.
  • Students participating in campus-wide volunteer and civic engagement activities volunteered 1,800 hours with local community and nonprofit organizations.
  • Students involved in UNO's TRIO program volunteered 1,200 hours with local community and nonprofit organizations.
  • Goodrich Scholarship Program students volunteered 7,878 hours with local community and nonprofit organizations.
  • Students who graduated with the Community Engaged Scholars Transcript Designation (CES) volunteered 4,069 hours with local community and nonprofit organizations. CES students may also be part of one or more of UNO's Learning Communities.


Barbara Weitz Community Engagement Center (CEC) Building Impact

32 community partners with office space in the CEC.

$1.2 Million in estimated value of community benefit to organizations that use the CEC for meetings and events.

6,557 events and meetings in the CEC.

86,334 Facility visitors to the CEC.
