Environmental Services is responsible for the sanitary appearance of more than 24 buildings on UNO’s Dodge, Pacific, and Center campuses.

The mission of the Environmental Services department is to provide and maintain a clean and safe learning environment for our students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

Scope of Service

Environmental Services uses the following procedures to determine a scope of service:

  • Each area is evaluated for appropriate cleaning time, volume, and customer expectations.
  • A cleaning schedule, based on function and usage, is developed into a daily assignment for each custodian.
  • The staffing plan, daily assignments, and periodic cleaning schedules are reviewed and adjusted regularly to ensure that all needs of each area are being addressed.

Priority Classification

Each room type is classified as critical, essential, or non-essential to identify its priority level in the event of a disaster, low staffing to high volume ratio, or other significant events.

Critical: A room that is classified as “critical” receives the highest priority over all other rooms.

Essential: A room that is classified as “essential” receives priority over rooms listed as non-essential.

Non-Essential: A room that is classified as “non-essential” receives the lowest priority over all other rooms. In the event of a disaster, low staffing to high volume ratio, or other significant events, these room types would be skipped, monitored, or receive a light cleaning.

Event Set-Up Services

We provide set-up support for campus events. Contact us at least five (5) business days prior to your event to schedule the set-up of tables, chairs, and trash/recycling bins.

All set-up resources used for the event must be available within the building where the event is taking place.

Submit a Request

Any changes to your request must be made at least 36 hours in advance for weekday events and by 4 P.M. the Wednesday prior to a weekend event.

Email your changes to unofacilities@unomaha.edu (Please note this email is only checked during regular business hours.)

Weekend Only Events

Set-ups will need to occur on the Friday prior to the event and will be removed the Monday after the event.

Reservation Center

For event room availability, email unoreservations@unomaha.edu or call 402.554.3301.

Pest Management Services

Pest management includes the interior management of animals, insects, and rodents.

Environmental and Custodial Services provides campus interior pest control via an outside contractor. Exterior pest management is provided through Landscape Services.

We use an integrated pest management control program to reduce negative human and environmental impacts. We ask that all food and drink materials in office areas be kept in sealed metal containers to increase the effectiveness of our pest management program.

Trash and Recycling Services

Every office suite currently has a centralized trash/recycle container that is emptied daily. We provide individual blue recycle cans with a smaller black insert that are emptied weekly.

Trash cans are provided in labs and study areas, but not classrooms. Centralized large trash cans have been strategically located in the hallways and entryways for classroom use. These are emptied daily.

Bulk Trash Removal

When it’s time to clean out an office or other space, you can request a temporary 96-gallon waste or recycling cart to dispose of bulky and heavy items. Please do not use the centralized trash containers for bulk trash. Submit a request (Repair Center: GR – Landscaping Services)

When you are done or if you need the container emptied and return, submit a request.

Confidential Bin Requests

DataShield provides service of confidential, secure, routine document destruction (secure shredding) services for UNO. It is the responsibility of each individual department to coordinate directly with DataShield to perform the necessary handling of confidential shredding services. Each service will be tailored to fit the needs of the individual department and fully performed directly from DataShield.
