  5. Advisory Committee

The Advisory Committee (AC) consists of three external, internationally renowned scientists with expertise relevant to the research area of the Center, one senior institutional official (Vice-Chancellor of Research) and one senior faculty member appointed by the senior institutional official. Two of the three external scientists have been with us since our COBRE began, providing tremendous continuity and stability. The AC convenes biannually (once via teleconference and once in person at UNO for the Annual Evaluation) to assess the progress of the COBRE and its components, the quality of leadership and resource management, the merit and viability of proposed pilot projects, and the progress towards attaining complete sustainability following NIH funding.

Member Affiliation Expertise

Dr. Thomas Buchanan, Chair

University of Delaware

Dr. Buchanan is an eminent researcher in neuromuscular biomechanics for joint stabilization. He has led a very successful COBRE with a clinical translational focus through all three phases.

Dr. Randy Nudo

Kansas University Medical Center (KUMC)

Dr. Nudo performed seminal research in neuroplasticity that provided the basis for stroke rehabilitation; editor of the #1 rehabilitation journal; from an IDeA state.

Dr. Evangelos Christou University of Florida

Dr. Christou's research focuses on the effects of aging and neuromuscular control of movement and movement accuracy in young and older humans during isometric and anisometric contractions.

Dr. Sara Myers

University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO)

Dr. Myers is the Vice-Chancellor of Research, who, as the senior research official, oversees all research at UNO. Has served as President of the American Society of Biomechanics and is nationally recognized for her research in peripheral artery disease.

Dr. Gina Gigon

University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO)

Dr. Ligon serves as the Director of the National Counterterrorism Innovation, Technology, and Education Center (NCITE), a DHS Center of Excellence for Terrorism Prevention and Counterterrorism Research. She is an expert in implementing strategic initiatives and leading centers to self-sustainability.
