Master’s Degrees

Looking to advance your career, or want to start a brand new one? Earning your master's degree from UNO can start you on the path to a bright future. Master's education is the fastest-growing and largest segment of graduate education. Many students and professionals recognize that in order to be competitive in the marketplace, additional skills and education are necessary.

They are right. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment in occupations that typically require a master's degree has increased and the potential income gain from achieving a master's degree is substantial. On average, employers will pay 18 percent more to those who hold a master's degree than those with a bachelor's degree. Master's degrees are key to future employment and career advancement.

Benefits include:

  • Advance or change your career
  • Gain credentials & specialize
  • Hone professional skills
  • Earn a higher salary
  • Increase leadership abilities

A master’s degree is the next highest academic degree option after completing a bachelor’s degree. Most master’s degree options require 30-36 graduate credit hours.

Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) Degree

The educational specialist (Ed.S.) degree options at UNO are intended to further a PK-12 educator’s expertise beyond the master’s degree. If that is you, the Ed.S. is a post-master's program in which candidates attain a broad and systematic understanding of professional education, knowledge of a particular field of specialization, and an ability to apply theoretical concepts of education in an actual educational context.

One Ed.S. program is designed for the experienced practitioner who holds a master's degree and an administrative certificate and wishes to complete the requirements for a superintendent’s certificate from area states. The other Ed.S. program is designed for graduate students who have high levels of knowledge and skills in the profession of school psychology.

UNO also offers a variety of doctoral programs to ensure your determination is rewarded and help you achieve your educational goals and pursue your professional ambition. If you've been thinking about getting a doctorate but aren't sure where to start because it seems overwhelming, this is a good place to begin.

A doctoral degree is the pinnacle of graduate education, attracting the best and the brightest domestic and international students. Students who relish intellectual challenges, have a thirst for knowledge through research, and want to search for new and better ways to advance knowledge will enjoy and thrive in doctoral study.

Benefits include:

  • Advance your career
  • Advance the knowledge of your discipline
  • Maximize your earning power
  • Make a discovery or create an invention
  • Become a professor and teach the next generation

The doctoral degree is a terminal degree in most academic fields. Variations between the Ed.D. and Ph.D. do exist and are dictated by their designed intent.
