"I wasn't initially planning to pursue a Ph.D. at UNO after I graduated, but my advisor at the time encouraged me to apply for the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship. I spent several months working on my application, and during that time, I realized how much I enjoyed research. After I received the fellowship, it only made sense to pursue a Ph.D.
As a Ph.D. student, my research focuses on the development and pre-clinical evaluation of small-diameter vascular grafts, specifically looking at how we can develop and integrate biomimetic vascular grafts for the treatment of peripheral arterial disease. Being an NSF Graduate Research Fellow has provided me with the platform to dive deep into these mechanical complexities, collaborating with mentors like Dr. Kaspars Maleckis and Dr. Jason MacTaggart to bridge the gap between vascular graft engineering and surgical application.
Beyond the lab, I’ve found immense fulfillment in mentorship and STEM outreach. Whether I am guest lecturing for introductory courses or participating in campus tours and events, I am passionate about equipping and inspiring the next generation of researchers.”
