  4. UNO AmeriCorps VISTA Program

UNO is proud to have hosted AmeriCorps VISTA members as part of our continued commitment to increasing the social mobility of at-promise students. Since 2023, AmeriCorps VISTAs at UNO have worked within the Barbara Weitz Community Engagement Center — a nationally recognized, one-of-a-kind facility that connects the campus to the Omaha community and beyond.

Over the years, UNO’s AmeriCorps VISTAs have supported projects that strengthen community partnerships, expand student engagement opportunities, and promote educational equity. Their work has focused on areas such as volunteerism, service learning, and basic needs support through initiatives like:

  • Volunteer and Community Impact Programs – Enhancing representation and engagement in volunteer and civic efforts.

  • Service Learning Academy – Developing and assessing community-based learning experiences.

  • Maverick Food Pantry – Building capacity for basic needs support and anti-poverty initiatives.

Although applications for AmeriCorps VISTA positions at UNO are not currently open, we are proud of the lasting impact these members have made on campus and in the Omaha community.
