Be a Santa to a Senior 2017

Omaha – The Department of Gerontology, Sigma Phi Omega (Academic Honor Society of Gerontology), and Home Instead Senior Care are joining forces for the ninth year and would like to give you an opportunity to “be a Santa to a Senior.”

Christmas can be a lonely time for seniors and we are excited to be able to help again with your help. The needs are very simple and range from wanting a six-pack of Coca-Cola to cleaning supplies. The needs and wants vary tremendously, so there is sure to be a match for you; however, you will want to get here early for the best selection.

In past years, we have witnessed departments get together and become a Santa to many seniors. We have also watched the joy of a student returning such a simple request as crackers and soup. We hope you say yes and stop by CPACS 211 between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to select your ornament.

Our Christmas tree, with ornaments, will be up and ready on Friday, November 3, 2017.

Here is how you can help an underserved senior:

  • Remove an ornament, or two, from the tree located in CPACS 211
  • Record your name on the ornament sign-in sheet
  • Purchase the gift
  • Return the unwrapped gift to the Gerontology Department in CPACS 211 by Monday, November 30.

Home Instead representatives will pick up your gifts, wrap, and deliver them to the seniors prior to Christmas. If you have any questions please visit our website or contact Maria Sorick, staff assistant, at 402.554.2272 or msorick@unomaha.edu.
