The University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) Aviation Institute celebrated another successful year of the Jet Linx Aviation Institute Golf Classic, bringing together supporters, industry partners, alumni, students, and community members in support of aviation education.

Held annually to benefit student scholarships and opportunities, the Golf Classic welcomed 144 golfers and 24 sponsors in 2026. The institute expects the event to net more than $50,000 for Aviation Institute students, continuing a tradition of philanthropy that has helped shape the future of aviation professionals for three decades.

The Jet Linx Aviation Institute Golf Classic began in 1996 as a way to raise funds for student scholarships. In 2013, the Aviation Institute partnered with Jet Linx Aviation to honor the memory of Robb Azer, a UNO aviation student who had accepted a position with Jet Linx before his life was tragically cut short in a motorcycle accident. That partnership established the Jet Linx Aviation Institute Golf Classic and further strengthened the event's impact on students.

Since its inception, the tournament has raised more than $706,400, including $623,400 since partnering with Jet Linx Aviation in 2013. The event has played a vital role in expanding access to educational opportunities for aviation students and supporting the continued growth of the Aviation Institute.

"It's hard to believe we started this event 30 years ago," said Scott Vlasek, director of the UNO Aviation Institute. "Looking at those numbers, it's clear just how much good this outing has done for our students and our program over the years."

The Golf Classic also provides Aviation Institute students with the opportunity to interact with alumni, industry professionals, sponsors, and supporters throughout the day. Whether assisting with tournament operations or visiting with participants on the course, students gain valuable networking experience while sharing their passion for aviation and learning more about careers across the industry.

One new feature at this year's tournament highlighted Aviation Institute student Natalie Henson, who is also a member of the UNO Women's Golf Team. Henson participated in an on-course competition on one of the tournament holes, giving golfers the opportunity to take part in an additional fundraising activity. The competition raised more than $500 for student support initiatives and was a popular addition to this year's event.

Funds raised through the Golf Classic currently support three annual scholarships, have helped endow five scholarships, and will complete the endowment of two additional scholarships next year. These scholarships provide critical financial assistance and help ensure students have access to the resources needed to succeed in their aviation education and careers.

As the tournament celebrates 30 years of impact, the continued support of sponsors, golfers, alumni, and friends remains essential to the Aviation Institute's mission of preparing the next generation of aviation leaders.

The UNO Aviation Institute extends its sincere gratitude to the sponsors, golfers, volunteers, students, alumni, and community members who helped make the 2026 Jet Linx Aviation Institute Golf Classic another memorable and successful event.
