Aviation Institute Internship Program (AIIP)

The Aviation Institute at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) provides a structured internship program to help bridge the gap between academic preparation and the workplace.

Internship Providers will work with interns to develop a project or other hands-on related experience. Internship are unpaid, unless otherwise noted, and the intern is responsible for any expenses associated with participation. The Institute focuses on finding public and private sector employers within the aviation industry.

These opportunities allow students to expand their knowledge base as well as to gain hands-on experiences that will reinforce the concepts taught in the program.

Jet Linx Aviation

Nebraska Department of Aeronautics

Omaha Airport Authority

Midwest Aviation

Transportation Security Administration(Must be a U.S. Citizen)

Burke High School Aeronautics and Space Science Program(Must be a CFI candidate)

Requirements

Internships are open to undergraduate and graduate students pursuing a degree, concentration, or minor in aviation

Minimum 3.0 Cumulative GPA preferred

Some opportunities are only open to U.S. citizens and legal permanent residents

Appropriate FAA certificates or ratings maybe required on certain opportunities

Details

Students are expected to commit a minimum of 8 hours per week for 16 weeks in order to receive full credit for the internship. The internship experience is an academic course and must be taken for an academic grade. Students will receive 3 hours of credit for the course and maybe eligible for up to 6 hours of internship credit.

Please fill out the Internship Application and submit it with a copy of your resume and cover letter. Please note that you are applying to the Internship Program, efforts will be made to match you with your top choice but it is not a guarantee.

National and International Opportunities

The Aviation Institute also has established relationships with airlines, airports, governmental organizations, non-profit agencies, consulting firms, and more that offer nationally competitive internship programs.

These opportunities are often paid but students are responsible for housing, food, and local transportation while conducting their internship.
