Duman and Hart Earn 2026 NeBAA Academic Scholarships

The University of Nebraska at Omaha Aviation Institute students Alex Duman and Bernadette Hart were recognized for their academic excellence and commitment to the aviation industry as recipients of the 2026 Nebraska Business Aviation Association (NeBAA) Academic Scholarship.

Duman and Hart received their scholarships during the NeBAA Scholarship Dinner on September 21, 2026, where students and aviation professionals gathered to celebrate academic achievement and support the next generation of aviation leaders. Their selection reflects the hard work, dedication, and passion they have demonstrated throughout their time at UNO and within the aviation community.

NeBAA supports the growth and continued success of business aviation in Nebraska while connecting students and emerging professionals with members of the industry. Through opportunities such as its academic scholarship program, the organization helps students continue their education and pursue careers across the aviation field.

NeBAA’s work aligns with the broader mission of the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA), which works to foster an environment where business aviation can thrive in the United States and around the world. Founded in 1947, NBAA represents thousands of companies and professionals that rely on general aviation aircraft to make their businesses more efficient, productive, and successful. For Duman and Hart, receiving the NeBAA Academic Scholarship is both a recognition of what they have accomplished and an investment in what lies ahead.

Both students have demonstrated a strong commitment to their education while taking an active role in the aviation community. Duman serves as a co-captain of the UNO Flying Mavericks Flight Team, helping lead the team as it prepares for its upcoming regional competition in Salina, Kansas, this October. Along with his leadership on the Flight Team, Duman recently earned his multi-engine rating, marking another significant milestone in his flight training. He is also gaining valuable real-world aviation experience as a skydive pilot at Plattsmouth Municipal Airport, further developing his skills and experience as a professional aviator.

Hart has expanded her involvement in aviation through organizations including Women in Aviation and the Fellowship of Christian Aviators, where she serves as a founding member of UNO’s chapter and event coordinator. Her passion for the industry began through her service in the Air National Guard and her experience working around KC-135 aircraft, which inspired her to pursue aviation as a long-term career.

Through leadership, hands-on experience, academic achievement, and continued professional development, Duman and Hart represent the dedication and drive that the NeBAA Academic Scholarship seeks to recognize.
