Humility Not Hostility: UNO PRSSA Campaign
- published: 2021/03/08
“Civil discourse is in a state of crisis.” This is the foundation for the 2021 Bateman Competition, which invites Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) chapters from across the nation to create a campaign to encourage quality, integrity, and inclusiveness to public discourse.
The Bateman Competition is an annual case study, which gives PRSSA chapters a client and a problem to solve. This year, the client is the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) itself. PRSA has asked entrants to apply their problem solving skills to a full public relations campaign about what civility really means.
UNO PRSSA used this brief and information to craft a social media campaign titled: Humility not Hostility. Creative Director Courtney Kilroy says, “In our campaign, we are hoping to engage public relations professionals and communications students in conversations about what civility really means and how it can bring about respectful, inclusive, productive dialogue on difficult topics. We have also expanded the scope of the campaign to the entire campus community in recognition of how important civility is for everyone, not only those of us in the communications field.
The Humility Not Hostility pledge is an actionable step people can take to better understand how to incorporate civility into their everyday lives, accompanied by graphics blending two different viewpoints in red and blue into purple to symbolize cooperation. UNO PRSSA also created a Google Form to officially take the pledge and become eligible to receive a sticker of the campaign logo on their website and social media accounts.
Judging will take place in April 2021.
