Dr. Carson Holloway

The study of political science has never been more relevant and necessary than it is today. Politics confronts our society—and each one of us—with fascinating questions and critical challenges. Why do nations go to war? Can their differences be settled peacefully? Why do citizens vote the way they do? How are our political institutions designed to function, and how do they actually function in practice? How can we safeguard the environment? What can we learn from the political systems of other nations? What are the causes of poverty and wealth, and of stability and instability, within nations? What are the requirements of an effective democracy? What are the scope and limits of the power of government? What rights and freedoms must governments protect? Can we distinguish between just and unjust forms of government?

UNO’s Department of Political Science is dedicated to the exploration of these and other important issues and questions. We have distinguished, award-winning faculty who can help students acquire the knowledge and skills they need to become responsible and effective citizens and leaders.
