Alana White Named 2021 Academic Advisor of the Year

White's nominators describe her as an advisor that regularly goes above and beyond.

Academic advising is recognized as at "the very core of successful institutional efforts to educate and retain students" (Tinto, 1987). It may be the "single most underestimated characteristic of a successful college experience" (Light, 2001).

The Advisor of the Year award was created to recognize and honor advisors for their:
  • Contribution and service to students and academic advising on campus;
  • Advocacy and collaboration for students and academic advising best practices;
  • Initiative and attitude in improving academic advising.
White's nominators described her as someone who regularly goes above and beyond. One nominator in particular said, "I call it the Alana Standard. If Alana agrees with me, then I must be on the right track. As we think about the kinds of advisors we want on campus, Alana White is who we should think of—we should all strive for the Alana Standard."

Alana will be presented with her certificate and $500 award at the virtual 2021 Faculty Senate/Staff Advisory Council/Academic Advising Council Recognition Banquet.
