Spiritual Wellness

  4. Spiritual Wellness

Spiritual Wellness is expanding one’s sense of purpose and meaning in life.

Spiritual Wellness has to do with identifying a core set of beliefs, which can help to guide decision-making and other faith-based endeavors. Spiritual wellness recognizes and respects that not everyone will function under the same guiding principles. Some may find their spiritual home in religious faith, while others may find their spiritual home in nature or meditation. Spiritual wellness is not one-size-fits-all, what works for someone else might not be helpful for you. It is important to find a spiritual place that supports you.

Why is Spiritual Wellness Important?

Spiritual Wellness can increase feelings of hope and help us to find resilience during difficult times. Spiritual wellness can provide community and support, a sense of connection to those of a similar purpose. Connecting to our spiritual side can help to reduce anxiety, stress, and depression. Additionally, finding a purpose to life is known to enhance overall quality of life.

Self Check-In

  1. Do you think about what is important in life...who you are, what your values are, where you are going?
  2. Do you make time to relax during the day?
  3. Do you have a belief system in place?
  4. Do your values guide your decisions and actions?
For any of the above questions that you answered no to, try to maek that an area of focus to improve your Spiritual Wellness. If you have answered no to multiple, you may want to have this dimension be a top priority in order to benefit your overall wellbeing.

Where to start?

  • Take our self check-in to assess your spiritual wellness! A great place to begin is first to understand where you are in terms of your spiritual wellness.
  • Practice meditation and/or prayer. You can participate in quiet meditation or morning prayer.
  • Join a religious affiliation of your choice. Find your community and get involved.
  • Explore and enjoy outdoor activities. Go outside and explore areas around campus, your neighborhood, and city that you usually wouldn’t.
  • Exercise. Go for a walk or take a group fitness class to help the body and mind.
  • Be free, Be lively, Be you. Be free and capable of choosing your life. Be lively and full of life and energy to explore new things. Be you and understand who you are and what principles guide your life and decisions.
