Campus Recreation & Wellness Policies & Procedures
Campus Recreation & Wellness is committed to creating a safe, welcoming, and respectful environment for all participants. These policies and procedures are designed to protect the well-being of our users, ensure fair and equitable access, and clearly outline expectations for shared spaces. By establishing consistent guidelines, Campus Recreation & Wellness strives to provide an experience where every individual feels valued, supported, and able to participate fully.
All student users are required to adhere to the UNO Student Code of Conduct while using Campus Recreation & Wellness facilities or participating in any associated programs.
Access Policies
Campus Recreation & Wellness facilities may be used by:
- Currently enrolled UNO students who have paid the appropriate UPF fees, or
- Individuals with a valid Campus Recreation & Wellness membership.
To gain entry, individuals must:
- Present a valid MavCard, or
- Scan into the facility using the UNOmaha Campus Recreation & Wellness App.
Additional access guidelines:
- Users are permitted up to three (3) forgotten ID entries per academic year (August–August). After the third occurrence, entry will be denied without a MavCard or mobile app.
- Use of a MavCard or app by anyone other than the assigned cardholder is prohibited and may result in denied entry and confiscation of the card.
- Violations of access policies may result in disciplinary action, including suspension or termination of access to the facility or membership.
- All members and guest pass holders are required to present a photo ID upon purchase of a membership or guest pass and have a photo on file for security and identification purposes to access the facility.
UNO students, Campus Recreation and Wellness members, and guests may bring dependents into the facility with a valid membership or guest pass. For all dependents ages 0–17, a parent or legal guardian must be present at the time of membership or guest pass purchase.
Children Ages 0–15

Must be accompanied by an adult (19 years or older) at all times while in the facility.

Are not permitted to use weight or cardio equipment, the spa, the steam room, or the dry sauna.

May not be left unattended in any area of the facility, including hallways, the jogging track, pool, activity courts, climbing wall, multi-purpose rooms, or the atrium.

Children ages 7 and older must use the locker room corresponding to their gender or the gender-neutral changing rooms.

Are not permitted to sign into the facility using the Campus Recreation and Wellness App.
Children Ages 16–17

A parent or legal guardian must be present at the time of purchase and must sign the required member waiver.

May enter the facility without an accompanying adult after purchasing a membership or guest pass.

Must use the Campus Recreation and Wellness App to enter the facility.
Photo, ID, and Emergency Contact Requirements

All children ages 0–17 must have an emergency contact on file with Campus Recreation and Wellness. The emergency contact must present a photo ID to verify the information.

All members are required to present a photo ID upon purchase of a membership or guest pass and have a photo on file for security and identification purposes.
- Minors without a photo ID must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian with a photo ID.
Student Memberships
- UNO students enrolled during the previous spring semester and the upcoming fall semester, but not enrolled during the summer session, may purchase a summer membership.
- UNO students not paying the appropriate UPF fees may purchase a membership at a discounted rate.
Faculty & Staff Memberships
- Only current UNO faculty and staff may purchase block memberships.
- Block memberships are not payroll-deductible.
- All University of Nebraska System employees may access Campus Recreation & Wellness by purchasing a guest pass or membership.

General Facility Use Policies
- Lost items may be turned in at the reception desk. Campus Recreation & Wellness is not responsible for lost, stolen, unattended, or unsecured personal belongings.
- Inappropriate, offensive, or discriminatory behavior or language may result in removal from the facility and revocation of membership.
- Taping or marking floors is prohibited without prior approval from Campus Recreation & Wellness.
- Animals are not permitted, except certified service animals.
- Spitting is prohibited throughout the facility, except in designated spittoons located in court areas.
- Rollerblades/skates and long/skateboards are prohibited from use in the facility.
- Bicycles, mopeds, scooters, and motorcycles are not permitted inside the facility, except when approved for a research project.
- Drug, alcohol, tobacco, and vape product use is prohibited.
Attire
- Shoes must be worn in all activity areas and common areas (hallways, atrium) unless allowed explicitly by activity (ex. yoga, pool, locker room usage)
- A non-marking, athletic shoe must be worn on the wood floors at all times.
- Proper swimwear is required in the pool areas.
- Weight Rooms and Group Fitness require proper exercise attire: athletic shorts or pants, shirts, tanks, or sports bras that cover the chest and buttocks, and pants free of buttons or zippers.
Inclement Weather
- Decisions to close the university due to adverse weather are made by the UNO Chancellor or designee, in consultation with the Weather Emergency Committee.
- The Director of Campus Recreation & Wellness serves on this committee.
- During a university closure, Campus Recreation & Wellness may remain open with modified hours if conditions allow.
- Updates regarding closures or adjusted hours will be communicated via email, mobile app notifications, social media, and the website.
Tornado Procedures
- During a tornado warning, all participants must follow staff instructions and shelter in designated areas or exit the building as directed.
- Activities may not resume until authorized by Campus Recreation & Wellness staff.
Refund Policies
- Campus Recreation & Wellness may provide a partial refund for individuals who request to cancel their program registration before the start of the program.
- All memberships, towel service, and locker rentals are non-refundable unless an exception is granted due to extenuating circumstances and approved by Campus Recreation and Wellness staff.
RSOs Facility Use
UNO registered student organizations may request use of Campus Recreation and Wellness facilities for approved events. Click for details
Weight Room Policies
- Patrons must be at least 16 years old to use the weight room.
- Personal training services are permitted only when provided by a University of Nebraska at Omaha Campus Recreation and Wellness–authorized trainer and require the purchase of approved training sessions. Individuals are strictly prohibited from using facility access or membership for personal financial gain.
- Olympic lifting/deadlifting: Not permitted Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, in the North Weight Room due to proximity of CAPS and UNMC Health Center.
- Use clips or collars for every set and repetition when lifting with bars and plates.
- Use bumper plates for any lift where plates make contact with the floor.
- Set weights down under control - avoid slamming or dropping equipment.
- Re-rack weights after each workout.
- Wipe down equipment after use.
- Use of chalk is limited to the South Weight Room. Chalk is not supplied.
- Punching bag use: Gloves are required; no sparring is permitted.
- Weight room equipment may not be removed from the weight room except for the south weight room equipment used in room 135.
- Vests or ankle/wrist weights are the only exception.
- Store personal belongings (bags, jackets, sweatshirts) in designated storage or locker rooms.
- Use headphones for personal music.
- Food is not allowed in the weight room. Drinks must have secure lids.
- Do not lean weights or bars against walls, mirrors, or windows.
- Do not step on benches or place weights on them - use a box or step instead.
Sport Clubs Policies
Membership
- All currently enrolled UNO students are eligible to join a sport club.
- UNO students not paying the UPF fee must purchase membership to access UNO Rec Well facilities.
Spectators
- Each spectator must sign in at the reception desk and be accompanied by a participant.
- A spectator may not participate in any activity during his/her visit.
- A child may be a spectator only if accompanied by a non-participating adult.
- The club member is responsible for the actions of the spectator and must remain in the facility.
