Rec Well is one of four departments (CAPS, ASC, and Nebraska Medicine being the other 3) that make up The Wellness Center located in the H&K building on UNO’s campus. The building is 240,000 square feet.
Our space includes:
Climbing Wall
This 3,900-square-foot climbing area features a 25-foot top-rope and lead wall, along with a 14-foot free-standing bouldering structure. Students have access to equipment rentals as well as belay, lead climbing, and general climbing classes and challenges.
Indoor Courts
Two adaptable court spaces total 24,060 square feet and include four full-size courts. The courts easily convert for basketball, volleyball, badminton, pickleball, and other activities, supporting both recreation and organized play.
Elevated Track
A three-lane, 200-meter indoor track wraps above the facility and features multiple access points and clearly posted daily direction signage. The elevated design provides open views of the basketball courts and climbing wall below.
Strength and Cardio Areas
Two weight rooms totaling approximately 16,000 square feet, featuring around 115 pieces of strength and cardio equipment, including treadmills, stationary bikes, ellipticals, stair climbers, free weights, and weight machines. Spaces also contain a wide variety of functional training equipment and accessories to support all fitness levels and training styles.
Locker Rooms
Three locker rooms—men’s, women’s, and family—span 7,208 square feet and include lockers, steam rooms, saunas, and showers. All locker rooms offer direct access to the pool and hot tub areas.
Injury Prevention & Care (IPC)
The 2,600-square-foot Injury Prevention Clinic provides comprehensive services, including injury evaluation, rehabilitation, and first aid. Care is delivered by certified athletic trainers and trained student staff. All IPC services are free for students and members.
MAC Court
The 6,471-square-foot MAC Court is a flexible activity space designed for soccer, volleyball, basketball, and a variety of recreational uses.
Multipurpose Rooms
Two mirrored fitness studios with finished wood flooring offer a combined 3,500 square feet of flexible activity space. Cubbies are available for personal storage. While fitness and sound equipment are reserved for scheduled classes, the studios are open outside of programming hours for individual or small group workouts.
Rental Center
The Rental Center offers equipment for a wide range of outdoor activities, including camping, paddling, climbing, yard games, winter sports, and outdoor cooking.
Pool
The aquatic facility includes two 25-yard pools with six lanes each, which can convert into a 50-yard, six-lane configuration. Additional features include a diving well, movable bulkheads, a hot tub, a video scoreboard, a Colorado Timing System, and a wide range of aquatic equipment. Seating for approximately 500 spectators makes the space well suited for practices, camps, and competitions.
Spin Room
A 1,100-square-foot mirrored studio designed specifically for cycling classes. The space features 21 Schwinn bikes, adjustable lighting for a studio-style experience, and a maximum capacity of 20 participants. Cubbies are available for personal item storage.
Academic/Programmable Weight Room
This 2,000-square-foot fitness space includes two lifting rigs with six stations each, along with plates, dumbbells, kettlebells, medicine balls, and five rowing machines. The space is reserved exclusively for academic classes and Campus Recreation & Wellness programming.
Functional Training Studio
This 1,600-square-foot mirrored fitness space features a mix of functional cardio and strength equipment. The studio is available for patron use outside of reserved program times.
Lounge Areas
Five dedicated lounge and study areas spanning approximately 11,000 square-feet, the spaces serve as a comfortable, casual destination within the University Recreation Center. Designed for students to relax, socialize, and recharge, it offers flexible seating, study-friendly environments, and convenient access to nearby recreational amenities.
Table Tennis Area
Three table tennis tables are available for open play. Paddles and balls may be checked out for use.
What to expect when using the Workout Facilities
- Please do not drop dumbbells or standard barbell plates.
- Please wipe down equipment before and after use.
- Any questions can be directed to current staff members.
Equipment Checkout
Limited items are available.
All equipment is available on a first come, first served basis.
Visit the Guest Services desk to rent all the equipment you need to enjoy yourself at the Wellness Center. The equipment is FREE to check out with a valid MavCARD or Rec App. All equipment must be returned by closing time on the day of checkout. Items available for checkout include:

- Basketballs
- Footballs
- Pickleball Paddles and Balls
- Soccer balls
- Table Tennis Paddles and Balls
- Volleyballs
Parking Information
If you are attending a Wellness Center program on campus Monday - Friday, you will need a parking pass to avoid receiving a ticket.
