Upskilling, reskilling, ongoing training, employee development, the list for human resources professionals goes on and on. Those in this field, often referred to as people leaders, human resource managers, CHROs, and more are finding themselves with an increasingly complex task: hire new employees with workforce ready skills all while developing current employees to meet the needs of the changing workforce. And even more, do it simultaneously with all your other tasks.

When organization or industry leaders focus on or encourage specific skills, HR leaders can look to microcredential courses to meet those needs. By earning an online microcredential from the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO), your people can build in-demand skills that support their career goals, help them stand out, and fulfill the needs of your industry.

More than training: how do you implement employee training and development into daily rhythms?

Microcredential courses are short-term, affordable, 100% online courses that focus on hyper-specific skills and competencies. Created and taught by subject matter experts and backed by an accredited university like the University of Nebraska at Omaha, those who complete them earn a digital badge to showcase their hard work and new skill.

With microcredentials, personalizing employee development doesn’t have to feel so overwhelming. Traditional means of development can be time-consuming, costly, and difficult to fit into an already demanding schedule. While there’s a place for conferences, training programs, and more– employees will find themselves on a fast track to necessary skills with microcredentials.

Consider the following parts of workplace rhythms that would naturally support ongoing learning:

  • manager-employee conversations
  • team meetings
  • department goal discussions
  • year-end employee goal setting

Human resources leaders can help organizations identify 1) company learning goals, 2) industry-specific learning goals, and 3) team-specific learning goals. With the help of UNO’s self-paced, short-term microcredential courses, employees will develop real skills and earn badges that prove their success.

What skills should we prioritize for the future? And how do we build a culture of continuous learning?

These are the questions HR professionals are tasked with answering. While it will look different for every team, UNO’s evolving library of microcredential courses stays up-to-date with some of the most sought-after skills.

From courses on Retention-Focused Management and Learning with Generative AI to Financial Analysis for Non-Finance Professionals and Project Management Tools & Strategies for Everyone, UNO seeks to equip every generation of learner with new, industry-aligned skills.

While we can’t tell you exactly what skills your employee needs, we know that a culture of continuous learning starts with one thing: commitment. A commitment to ask questions and embrace change. Interesting in committing to microcredentials? Explore our microcredential library here.
