The Power of Digital Badges

Badges are the "nutrition facts" of your learning journey, providing a clear picture of your skills and achievements.

Here's why they matter:

1. Skills Recognition: Digital badges visually represent your skills, achievements, and knowledge. They're like digital credentials that let you showcase your accomplishments in a specific area. Think of them as a way to stand out when applying for jobs, higher education, or connecting with professionals.

2. Portability and Trustworthiness: You can easily share digital badges on social media, websites, or digital resumes. They come with detailed info about who issued them, the criteria, and evidence you needed to earn them. This makes it easy for others to verify their authenticity, which boosts your credibility.

3. Microcredentials and Experiential Learning: Digital badges are perfect for short, skill-based courses. They let you collect evidence of your achievements from accredited institutions, associations, or employers and share them with potential employers. They also can capture learning that happens outside the classroom, through leadership roles and experiential learning opportunities.

4. Enhanced Assessment: Badges aren't just about test scores. They can be tied to various assessments like projects, peer evaluations, or real-world applications. This gives a more well rounded picture of your abilities.

5. Skills-Based Hiring: For hiring managers, digital badges are a great way to match candidates with the skills they need. They complement traditional hiring criteria like work experience, degrees, and time-based measures.

6. Motivation and Engagement: Badges can motivate you to participate actively in educational activities. They break learning into smaller, achievable goals, fostering a sense of accomplishment and progress. Plus, they encourage healthy competition and collaboration.

7. Lifelong Learning: Digital badges are your lifelong learning companions. As you acquire new skills and knowledge throughout life, you can use them to demonstrate continuous growth and professional development.

8. Flexibility and Stackability: Badges can be stacked as complexity or depth of learning in an area increases, and can also be stacked from various organizations. This helps to demonstrate growth and development in specific competencies, whether they’re durable or technical skills.

9. Community Building: Digital badges bring people with similar achievements together to create communities. You can connect, collaborate, and share knowledge with others who've earned similar badges.

Sharing Your Credentials and Badges :

Congratulations on earning your credentials, experiential badges, and collection badges! These achievements represent your hard work and dedication in various areas of your education and personal development. Sharing your accomplishments can be a great way to showcase your skills and experiences to others. However, it's essential to know your audience and how to best leverage your badges. In this guide, we'll show you how to share your badges while keeping your engagement tokens and engagement collections private.

Step 1: Access Your Badges

When you receive a badge, you will receive an email. You can follow the link to login to your account or you can log into unomaha.badgr.com and navigate to “My Badges” to find your badges. This area is also referred to as the “Canvas Badges Backpack.” Here, you can see and manage your badges.

Step 2: Choose Which Badges to Share

You can share individual badges or collections of badges but not all badges should be shared. As a general rule, you want to share credentials, experiential badges, and collection badges that highlight your accomplishments. Generally, you shouldn’t normally share engagement tokens and engagement collections because they are more like personal rewards within the platform. If you want to create your own collection that highlights skills for a specific job you are applying to, you can create your own collection.

Create a collection: Select the “Create Collection” button. Enter a name and description, then select “Create Collection.” Select the collection you wish to add badges to, select the “Add Badges” button, then search or page through the list of badges selecting all the badges you wish to add to your collection, and select “Apply.” Once you toggle the collection to “Public” you can share it.

Step 3: Locate the Share Option

Click on the badge or collection you want to share and select the “share” option. You can share with a link, using an embedded code, via LinkedIn, or on other social media feeds like Facebook. When you click on the share option, you have the option to hide your email address.

Step 4: Keep Current

Once you've customized your sharing settings, generate the share link or send links to specific individuals or groups. Remember to review and update your share settings regularly. As you earn more badges or credentials, remember to update your shared badges to showcase your latest achievements.

Step 5: Share Responsibly

As a general rule, engagement tokens and engagement collections should remain private. They are usually meant for your own personal engagement within the platform and may not have the same value when shared externally. Avoid sharing these items unless you have a specific reason to do so.

By following these steps, you can share your achievements which is a powerful way to demonstrate your skills and accomplishments to potential employers, colleagues, and peers. We are excited to see what you earn!
